When you buy used cars in Hickory Hills or any area you need to do a few things after you get it. Since you are taking over the maintenance, you are going to need to go ahead and set a maintenance schedule. Since you do not know the previous owner’s schedule, you will need to start fresh. This will keep you from going too far on some maintenance tasks and can help you prevent potential issues.
Change the Oil
The first thing you should do when you get your new car home is change the oil. Keep in mind that some dealerships do this when a car comes in, but not all of them do. Do not assume the oil has been changed. Ask the salesman when you are buying it, they will likely know. Usually, if a dealership did though they will advertise it. If you are in doubt, then go ahead and change it to prevent extra wear on your engine.
Check the Tires
Be sure to check the air in all of your tires. Dealerships will usually fill the tires before they put them on the lot, but if the car has been sitting for some time, then they can lose air. It is also possible that they are not set to the right pressure. Running a tire too over or under inflated can damage the tire, so it is worth it to take the two minutes to check them.
Sanitize the Interior
Dealerships do a great job of keeping their cars clean. They are trying to sell them after all. The thing about it is that even if they cleaned them every day, then there is still the possibility of multiple people having driven the car that day. Chances are nothing will happen if you do not, but if you are even a little bit of a hypochondriac, then you will want to take this step.
